My name is Mike Lopez. When I was younger I was very athletic. I participated in baseball, football, running – everything. On December 12, 1992, I was shot in the spine and left paralyzed from the waist down. Since then, I have continued to roll on with my life, playing wheelchair basketball, snow skiing, water skiing, and horseback riding. I now work as a peer mentor for Know Barriers, an organization at Rancho that empowers people with disabilities to live the best life possible. I teach wheelchair skills, am a seasonal baseball coach, and now, thanks to God and to Rancho Research Institute, I am proud to say that I am also an artist and a photographer.
